Expanding the Edge
For something NEW we can all enjoy
Hello again! It’s been a long time, six months since I sent up a flare, but there is new energy afoot and I would like to share it with you. By golly, we do need some new energy. Let’s create that together.
When I began my Substack two years ago, I had an idea that I would release my body of work here. I thought I might use it for serious writing. I published several thoughtful recaps of moments in my own history, and said things that I mean to a limited audience, but I did not feel the creative momentum which told me I had found the heat core for forward motion. I often show up too soon, and things have not yet assembled. This was the case with my Substack.
My last entry was the beginning of a deep push further into Jewish mysticism, which remains the centering base of my interest in creation systems. I finally got a copy of Daniel Matt’s translation of The Zohar, Volume One, which had been on my mind for almost ten years. I was actively teaching Wild Kabala, into my tenth year with that, all built upon the work and wisdom of Jewish Rabbis of antiquity and the last century. I observed and contemplated their disagreements and feuds, right into the modern day, weighing and evaluating what they believed was worth an argument, from different sides. There was a LOT of reading involved. I had gotten far enough, after a dozen years deep in Jewish Kabbalah, to feel that it would not be premature or presumptuous to begin to read the Zohar. Anyone may read a book! THE ZOHAR. Everyone mentions it, but no one I know, save one man, has read any of it. Now I have read 80% of Volume One, enough to have a sense of the futility of this as a dedicated long-term study, and to take a break. More on that, later.
So. The current moment. We are all observing what happens when millions of people stay online and listen primarily to aggrieved voices. The world becomes skewed. All of the truly good people who surround us are not as obvious and we may forget that they exist. We may self-isolate, to end the cacophony or to increase mental and spiritual safety.
We have done that, though. We all did that during the pandemic, and now what we need is more human contact of a particular kind. The good kind. We need laughter, people we enjoy, those who are glad to see us, whose faces light up when we walk into the room. You know, we might share a new creative activity. We can do something together, and make a memory, a stream of memories, which become the new basis of our shared experience. Basically, we all need to get out there and create a new reality by being nice to each other. Instead of telling, we can ask. Instead of talking, we can listen, we can attend. Instead of giving or withholding our opinion, we can have a pleasant experience together.
What about those of you who are exhausted, just too exhausted to listen or care? May I suggest that we view this as a continuum, as a mild, sunny day, and that all we have to do is step outside, into the sunshine, and feel the warmth. Just stand there. We can do that together.
In April, I will be speaking for The Tarot Guild of Australia, giving a talk on part of my new curriculum. The talk will be The Tarot Minors as a Creation Sequence: Understand Your Manifestation Process with the Ace thru Ten. This is a public workshop, and you may join me in the Zoom on April 19. My website has the direct link and photo.
Now and in the summer, I am running a bunch of new reading and practice groups, the primary focus of which is being together, exploring something we find interesting. I am currently offering a Tuesday Wild Tarot Card Practice Group, a Friday Walking with Rachel Reading Aloud Group, a Saturday Wild Tarot Study & Share co-teaching curriculum which lasts 78 weeks, and a Wild Torah Reading Aloud Group on Sundays. I am teaching a Wild Kabala class which has been going for almost a year, which resulted from my Master Teacher presentations at North Star Tarot Hermitage in May 2025. Between times, I see clients for Tarot Consultations, and separately teach four private students how to read Tarot personally and professionally. It’s a busy life. My website has all the details on these groups and offerings, which range in fee and tuition from 5usd to 200usd. There truly is something for everybody.
In September, I will be in London, visiting my Tarot friends and making new ones, from my hotel near the Tate Modern. I have put out a call across Europe for anyone feeling social, and we will meet to create something warm and kind as a memory which becomes a basis of new life. No tickets will be sold. It will be free, all for love and fun. So far, about a dozen people from Finland to Portugal have expressed desire to meet and have fun. We’ll gather in a free public place and hang out.
Long term, I am threatening the Tarot Train Tour of Europe 2027, where I ride the trains of Europe with my Tarot deck and Wild Kabala, just for fun, meeting any of you who wish to be there, at big train stations in major cities, where we can share a coffee or tea and some food, meet face to face at last, and plan some more fun. Once again, no tickets will be sold on these friendly outings, because they are for love and fun and adventure.
Malaysia after that, and friends in Singapore are up for it! A stop in Japan, on the way, of course. Will I make it to Tasmania and New Zealand? Antarctica? We shall see.
In my travels, there WILL be some opportunities for you to attend fee workshops where I teach or host community events, but those will be separate from the Wild & Friendly Fun Tour. The workshops will be formal, and I will let you all know well in advance. Those will be learning opportunities for students and instructors.
That’s all for now. Next letter will be to tell you about some awesome new Tarot Pros who are solid resources for you, and one or two major esoteric instructors, all of whom I personally recommend. You need excellent, trustworthy resources! I will interview each of them here on Substack, probably using the video function, to keep it central here.
As always, contact me for straight talk when you need it, and any form of card learning, from stone cold beginner to public presenter. I work 4pm-9pm Eastern, GMT+4, 7 days a week. Reach me at my website, which gives you a number for texting. I am easy to reach. Love to you all!
